License reciprocity, more known as application for USRN license endorsement, is a process by which a nurse licensed in one jurisdiction can transfer their license to another state. STEP 1: Pre-Endorsement Application Phase

In this phase, the candidates' credentials will be reviewed to see if they meet the US education requirements and are comparable to US standards for USRN license endorsement during the Pre-Endorsement Phase.

During this process, the candidate will submit school credentials and license validation requests and disclose their home state during the license endorsement process.

NOTE: The Pre-Endorsement Application Phase is not required in all states. Since each SBON license endorsement process differs per state, some states skip straight to the Endorsement Application.

STEP 2: Endorsement Application Phase

This is the stage in which your current license from another state in the US or a regulatory license from Canada will be transferred to your new state for licensing.

This is the next step after the Pre-Endorsement phase if the SBON the candidate applied for the license endorsement requires evaluation on the candidates' school credentials and current license.

RN License by Endorsement

A foreign educated nurse with a current license, either actively practicing or not, can endorse their license as not all SBON require work experience. At least one state's license verification is required; some jurisdictions require proof from every jurisdiction where the RN has practiced. Furthermore, some jurisdictions may need a refresher course before endorsing a license if a registered nurse has been out of practice for a lengthy period of time.
