VS Prep Guide: Reprocessing an expired Visa Screen order
Updated on December 28, 2022
Visa screen Certificates are required when applying for either permanent or occupational visas to work in the United States as a healthcare professional. And in this blog, we'll go over the Visa Screen process in-depth, focusing on reprocessing an expired order and other factors to keep in mind.
The nuts and bolts of Visa Screen
The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has approved CGFNS International (the institution that manages the visa screen process) to confirm the credentials of the following nine foreign healthcare professions for occupational visas:
- Registered nurses.
- Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurses
- Physical therapists
- Physician Assistants
- Occupational Therapists
- Audiologists
- Speech-Language Pathologists
- Clinical Laboratory Technicians / Medical Laboratory Technicians
- Clinical Laboratory Scientists / Medical Laboratory Technologists
Foreign-educated healthcare professionals unless obtained their professional degree in an English-speaking country (the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, the United Kingdom, or Canada – all provinces except Quebec), must pass any of the seven approved, and standard English proficiency exams for the Visa Screen application: (1) IELTS, (2) TOEFL iBT, (3) Cambridge English, (4) MET, (5) OET, (6) Pearson PTE, or (7) TOEIC. Each healthcare profession has different English proficiency requirements, which must be met by achieving an acceptable score based on CGFNS standards.
Nonimmigrant healthcare workers who plan to work in one of the above professions must have a valid, unexpired VisaScreen certificate to qualify for a temporary work visa, apply for a change of status to work in the United States, extend their stay, leave, return, or apply for an immigrant visa (green card).
Since the Visa Screen application requires other requirements and factors to consider aside from those mentioned above, some candidates fail to process their applications on time within 12 months and must reprocess an expired Visa Screen order to complete this application.
What do you need to know about reprocessing your expired Visa Screen order?
Your Visa Screen order will expire if it is not completed within a 12-month period. You can reprocess your expired order, which will allow you another year to submit the necessary documentation to obtain certification.
Important Note: Renewal of Visa Screen certification should not be mistaken with reprocessing an expired visa screen order.
Eligibility for Visa Screen Reprocessing orders
Until the order status changes to expired, you are unable to apply for a reprocess of your expired Visa Screen order. You have 12 months from the order’s expiration date to buy the reprocessing service. A single reprocessing of an order is permitted. In order to keep using the service after your order has expired a second time, you must place a new order at full price.
